Efficient fabrication of semisolid nondendritic Al alloy slurry with high quality

Subjecting a normal mechanical vibration to cooling slope plate, is proposed method for preparing semisolid nondendritic slurry, named shear-vibration coupling sub-rapid solidification (SCS). Taking Al-8Si alloy as model material, the temperature field and distribution of solid or liquid phase during SCS were simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics software primarily choose optimal processing parameters. Subsequently, slurries prepared with parameters selected according simulation results microstructures experimentally investigated. Results indicate that could provide basis roughly choosing parameters, although calculated fractions are always higher than experimental ones. The affect primary grain size, shape factor fraction mainly through altering contact duration melt on thus affecting effect melt, nucleation rate, dissociation proliferation. Experiments optimized show grains in slurry have an average size about 32 µm 1.38, quite uniform, even at highest pouring rate 2.81 kg·s-1, 46 1.7, respectively, which implies promising technology efficient fabrication high-quality Al available engineering applications.
